Abstract(in English) | With the aim of improving access to digital broadcast information for viewers with visual impairments-blind and partially sighted users, people who are both blind and deaf, etc.-we are researching and developing an information barrier-free receiving system and methods of presenting information. Data broadcasting and electronic program guides (EPGs) rely heavily on navigating a graphical user interface (GUI) environment in much the same way as computers and the Web. Unfortunately, our ability to grasp visually presented information such as GUI navigational screens and tables through sequential audio description and Braille is still far from adequate. This motivated our present work aimed at making it easier for the visually impaired to understand data broadcast menu screens, hierarchical structures, and EPGs and to access information through a combination of sequential audio description and tactile display techniques that enables them to spatially grasp the information. In this paper we present an overview about the performance of a tactile interface featuring movable keys arranged in a grid pattern, and assess the accessibility of hierarchical data structures by using tactile interface. |
