Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Multimode connector loss varies depending on the mode power distribution at the light input end of the test fiber. In our study, a light emitted from an LED whose operation wavelength is 850nm or 1310nm is launched into a multimode fiber whose core diameter is 50 or 62.5μm. The fiber is wound on a 25mm diameter rod in order to produce various mode power distributions at the output end of the fiber. We confirmed that a 500m long multimode fiber acts as an equilibrium mode distribution exciter independent of the bending condition of the fiber coupled to the light source. We also confirmed that the connector loss variation is reduced to below half by using the equilibrium mode exciter.
