Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Knowing the statistics of hosts in a managed network is crucial for network operators. Among such statistics, the incremental values such as number of packets or bytes sent by a host are easy to be counted. On the other hand, counting the cardinality, such as the number of distinct destination hosts for a source host, is not an easy task. This paper develops a novel method- NetHost, which monitors and aggregates the per-host statistics, including the cardinalities. Our approach is to use probabilistic counting algorithm for counting cardinalities, and to aggregate multiple traffic summaries for a host. We implement NetHost and validate its performance using the measured traffic data.
