Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The rate-distortion theory shows that the minimum coding rate R to achieve a given distortion D in lossy data compression coding is given by the rate-distortion function R(D). But, in the case that correlated sources are transmitted via a network with several channels, the achievable region for the distortions of sources and the rates of channels becomes a complicated region, which cannot be represented by the rate-distortion functions. In this paper, we review the rate-distortion theory for several networks with discrete stationary memoryless sources.
