Abstract(in English) One of the measures to reduce traffic congestion is the adoption of traffic signal control system, which can determine the signal parameters by forecasting the future traffic volumes. This forecast can be done by giving traffic volumes at an up stream intersection. Recently, image processing vehicle detectors are used when measuring the traffic volumes because of their cost and maintenance effectiveness. However, the conventional image processing vehicle detectors have a problem caused by occlusion, which leads to the detection failure of vehicles In order to overcome this problem, we have been developed the vehicle tracking algorithm based on Spatio-Temporal Markov Random Field (S-T MRF) model. With one camera, this algorithm enables the measurement of traffic volumes by direction at an intersection. In this paper, we report the details of the image processing vehicle detector for intersection and the result of filed test.
