| 抄録(和) | 文字認識はパターン認識の格好の題材である。その理由として、文字画像は誰もが認める標準文字コードにラベルづけすることができ、認識精度を評価するための共通文字データベース(ETL、NISTなど)が使え、認識率、棄却率、誤り率という評価尺度がある等が挙げられる。講演の前半では、この研究を始めた頃から思っている、パターン図形と視覚認知的な意味からみた文字(認識)の魅力について述べる。講演の後半には、若手研究者が伸び伸びと成長していくことを願って、パターン認識研究者ならばだれでもわかるベイズ定理に基づいて、研究者のキャリアパスをどのように選ぶかについて、私見を述べる。 |
| 抄録(英) | Character Recognition is an easy-to-introduce research theme in the field of pattern recognition. This is because we can symbolize and label character images using well standardized character codes. We can also use common databases, like the ones from ETL and NIST, for benchmarking and evaluating the accuracy of the recognition, by using comprehensive measures, such as recognition rate, rejection rate, and error rate. The first half of my talk describes the attractiveness of characters as pictorial patterns in terms of visual perception. At the end of my talk, management hints and tips for carrier-path planning to foster young researchers will be given using the pattern recognition principle. |
