Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to reduce the size of the handheld wireless terminals, the demand for the minituarization of antennas has increased dramatically. Among several types of small antennas, Normal-Mode Helical Antennas (NMHAs) have been studied widely because of the relative higher input resistance of the antennas. To evaluate built-in antennas for handheld terminals, it is necessary to consider the size of the conducting body of the terminals. In this report, in order to assess the quality factor of the self-resonant NMHAs placed on a conducting body, the effects of a conducting body of the terminals with balanced and unbalanced feeding systems have been analyzed by changing the size of the conducting body and the position of the antenna. In the case of using balance-fed NMHAs, the quality factor of impedance matched, NMHA placed on a conducting body is primarily established by the height of the conducting body. On the other hand, in the case of balanced-fed NMHAs, the quality factor of it is not siginificantly different by the size of conducting body.
