Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An optical pulse generation technique which combines a CW light source, a phase modulator, and a chirped fiber Bragg grating is reported. The waveform and the spectrum of the optical pulse is determined by only three parameters; phase modulation frequency, modulation index, and group velocity dispersion. We can precisely estimate the waveform and the spectrum from these parameters. Two useful optical pulses are obtained using this technique; One is an optical pulse with low duty ratio and high peak power which is suitable for supercontinuum generation, and the other is an optical pulse with 50 % duty ratio and high extinction ratio which is suitable for return-to-zero (RZ) signal in optical fiber communication.
