Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a novel TV prototype that enables users to watch one scene from arbitrary viewpoints. To generate a free viewpoint image from original images need a large amount of original image data. Therefore, it is necessary to compress the data. In this paper, we propose a new coding scheme under conditions where one object is captured by many cameras arranged in a circle. Using the Ray-Space method [1], each point in the real world has a sinusoidal trajectory in Ray-Space. We take advantage of the property that pixel values on each trajectory must ideally be the same, except for the influences of light variation and camera noise. In reality, since variations of the pixel values are not so large, we encode the pixel values on each trajectory with DCT and compress them. As a result, we indicate the relationship between bit rate and image quality.
