抄録(英) | Virtual surgery is found to be an important application of virtual reality technologies in a medical field, which can give trainees a great deal of experiences without using any living patients. In this paper, a virtual palpation system with a force feedback device is presented as a new application in medicine. We introduce a spring-mass network for representing a deformable soft object : soft tissues with smaller spring constants while harder objects such as tumors with larger spring constants. Because of the slow convergence of spring-mass dynamics, a spring-mass network model is unsuited to realtime interactive operation. We therefore introduce a preprocessing method for real-time operation. A 3D table listing node locations and depth of stick motion is pre-computed. This table is used for real-time operation for computing deformed shapes and reflection force. A real deformable object was made of gelatine and a lump of plastic eraser. A corresponding virtual system was constructed. The usability of this sytem was successfully evaluated with experimenting detection of a tumor through the reactive force with a force-feedback device (PHANToM). |
