Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a novel active contour description for video retrieval. Some feature descriptors for image content retrieval are defined in MPEG-7. An contour shape descriptor is also defined in the standard for descripting contour shape features of objects in still pictures. It has both of scale and rotation invariant properties since it is based on Curvature Scale Space (CSS). In this paper, we extend this descriptor to the temporal direction for video applications and propose a feature descriptor that compactlly describes an object contour shape and its temporal variation. The proposed descriptor is effective in the situation that both of videos and still pictures are assumed to be retrieved because the descriptor maintains the compatibility with the descriptor of still pictures defined in MPEG-7. From several experimental results, the significance of our proposed descriptors will be evaluated.
