Abstract(in English) | Optical packet switching is expected in advanced photonic networks, and optical switches used in these systems are required to operate with high-speed switching time of nano-second order, low power consumption, low crosstalk, polarization independence, etc. For these purposes we proposed a semiconductor multi-mode interference photonic switch with partial index-modulation regions (MIPS-P) which can operate by current injection for refractive index change and is expected as a high-speed optical switch. In this report we have discussed the structural design from viewpoint of polarization independence, and experimentally confirmed small-current and low-crosstalk operation. And also high-speed switching operation with a switching time of about 1.5~2.2ns has been demonstrated at a repetition rate of 10MHz. |
