Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Free space optical communication systems (FSO) is an effective solution for broadband network construction even though it is said to be easily affected by the weather condition thus it is difficult to maintain link quality. This paper presents the operation characteristics of a FSO used in what was known as "School Internet" project carried out for a period of 5 years from 1999 to 2004 throughout the several countries. It discusses about weather dependency which limits the system availability and clarify on its practical use.
