Abstract(in English) To support broadband wireless communications in future satellite communications or fixed wireless access system, this paper proposes a new wireless access approach named Variable Polarization Frequency Division Multiplex (VPFDM), which assigns frequency resources of single or double polarizations as well as frequency bandwidth to customers. The most significant problem in using both polarizations is the cross-polarization interference. This interference is caused by polarization rotation due to radio propagation environment. In a typical case of the present satellite communications, this interference is removed by polarization tracking mechanical system. However, it costs significantly high and inhibits realization of economical user-friendly terminal. Our proposing system adopts interference canceller and multi-carrier multi-rate modem in a digital manner. Thus, it can cancel cross-polarization in a very simple configuration and modulate/demodulate multi-carrier signals by a single user terminal. As a result, system operator can freely assign multi-carrier signals of double or single polarization to a single customer, which greatly improves the frequency utilization efficiency. This paper proposes the concept of VPFDM and its application to satellite communications. Then, to confirm the fundamental characteristics of digital interference canceller, several simulations were conducted. Their result will also be discussed.
