Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Monitoring burst-firings of hilar mossy cells is essential for understanding dentate-CA3 neuronal activities. Synchronized burst activities in dentate gyrus and CA3 region, which were induced by applying 4-aminopyridine, were monitored extracellularly with a glass electrode placed at granule cell layer and CA3 pyramidal cell layer. During the burst activities, patch-clamp recordings were performed from mossy cells and dentate granule cells. Mossy cells show burst firings (2-11 repetitive action potentials) or complex spikes that locked single population-burst-events and persisted for 10-500 ms. Differently from mossy cells, granule cells show either resting or firing status randomly within the burst-events. During the firing status, granule cells show firings of 1-3 action potentials. These results indicate the possibility that the burst-firings of mossy cells connect population activities in hippocampal sub-regions.
