Simultaneous Direction Estimation of Horns by a Microphone Array

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a sound-source localization system that informs the horn direction to hearing-impaired people. This system can estimate the directions of horns simultaneously. The system consists of estimating the number of horns and estimating the directions of the detected horns. The number of horns is determined by combining fundamental frequency estimation based on the likelihood for higher harmonics and false peak detection. In direction estimation, a histogram of source direction is calculated based on the arrival time difference between microphones obtained by cross-correlation functions. Applying beam-forming to each peak in the histogram, the system outputs the directions with higer power. To evaluate the proposed method, we conducted experiments of direction estimation by using the microphone array signals recorded in the actual environment. We had results that the correct rate of the sound sources is 68.2% and the performance of direction estimation is 43.7%.
