Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | This study examined whether there are differences in representations between familiar and unfamiliar faces and how familiar facial representations are encoded. In this experiment we used target faces which are familiar or unfamiliar to participants. In Experiment 1, participants composed the portraits of familiar or unfamiliar targets by computer software. In Experiment 2, participants made likeness judgments of portraits composed by familiar and unfamiliar participants. Results showed familiar participants judged the portraits composed by familiar participants to be similar, while unfamiliar participants showed the opposite pattern. The results suggested the familiar faces differ from unfamiliar faces qualitatively in memory representation. |
