Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we present a preceeding vehicle detection system with computer vision. This system focuses on the features of the vehicle in shading values and color information of the images, and detects the vehicle region from spatial-time characteristic by using an energy function based on a snakes method. We use four features of the vehicle such as symmetry, color information of red, smoothness of movement, and the lane geometry. A spatial energy is made by the evalution functions of symmetry and red. On the contrary a time energy is made by the evalution functions of smoothness of the movement and the lane geometry. The vehicle candidate region is converged by spatial-time energy by using snakes method. The effectiveness of this method was confirmed by the experiment.
