Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) When we estimate the static property of object such as size or slant by integrating information through multiple modalities, a weighted linear summation model well accounts for the integration process [1][2], while the integration process of dynamic property is still unknown., In a present study, to investigate the characteristics of integration of a dynamic property of an object, we conducted the psychophysical experiment where participants estimated an amount of deformation of an object through vision and haptics. Our results showed that a weighted linear summation model also applicable to the integration process of dynamic property and the weight to each modality changed depending on the reliability of the modality, though the observed weight is not optimal. In addition, when participants made the weight optimal by using feedback and instruction, the estimation of the property of identical stimuli became more accurate. These results suggested that when using multi-modal virtual environment, users could conduct tasks more accurately with proper feedback based on their perceptual characteristics.
