Evaluation for Delayed Effect and Detectability Threshold of Sign Video Communication

Abstract(in English) This paper reports evaluation test of delayed dialogue by sign language, supposing the sign tele-communication such as video phones. The aim of the experiments was defining the lower limit of detection (LLD) of delay in sign dialogue. The authors applied two tasks, "alternate counting up of numbers" and "transmitting numbers simultaneously and figuring out the sum." Evaluation of the effect of delay was carried out by double stimulus impairment scale method (DSIS). The results showed that LLD of alternate counting was 100 msec, and LLD of "summing numbers" was 200 msec. Generalizing the results obtained so far, it is concluded that dialogue by sign language is more tolerant than speech dialogue.
