Abstract(in English) | To determine whether or not a 3D touch sense can be transmitted to the visually-impaired, a basic experiment was conducted. Tactile-force feedback was used to acquire form recognition, and guidelines for the best presentation conditions were obtained. We focused on two presentation methods : one involved touching a virtual object from the outside, and the other involved touching it from the inside. From this experiment, we observed a notable difference between the correctness rate and the recognition time with the different presentation methods. This result shows that as regards the time for recognition of almost all the objects, the method of touching from the inside gave more statistically significant results in terms of the main effects of size and way of touching. With some objects, such as a group of spheres, however, there was no statistically significant difference. The results for congenital visually impaired subjects showed that there was no statistically significant difference between touching an object from the outside or the inside. On the other hand, recognizing some objects shows a different trend according to the shape of the object or the degree of the subject's visual handicap. This paper reports the details and results of this experiment. |
