Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is possible to represent a facial expression by drawing only a few lines. This means that, in the work of drawing, some expressive elements are selected or extracted from the facial expression that we perceive and they are combined and, thus, expressive elements of facial expressions can be conveyed concisely. In this study, based on the analysis of drawing-samples, such elements for the cognition of facial expressions are searched for. The first chapter introduces the assumed scales for expressive elements of expression contained in facial expressions: 'soft(mild)/hard(stiff),' 'light/heavy,' 'simple/complicated,' 'sharp/dull', and 'familiar/remote.' This assumption is based on the analysis of experiments on the drawing-representation of facial expressions. The second chapter analyses videotaped images of facial expressions, using expressive elements adopted in the first chapter. In the third chapter, a model chart A on expressive elements of facial expression is prepared on the basis of the Schlosberg's model with the scales 'pleasantness/unpleasantness' and 'acceptance/rejection.' In the fourth chapter, a model chart-B is prepared, compounded of each expressive element of the model chart-A, and it is evaluated.
