Forward Multilink Packet Transmission with Multiple Access Router on IP-based Mobile Communication Systems

Abstract(in English) When a mobile host is at cell edges in Internet protocol (IP)-based mobile communication systems, multiple access routers are often available for forward link packet transmission to the mobile host. In this report, we propose a layer-2 forward multilink packet transmission method that uses multiple links with available access routers to achieve higher packet transmission throughput. In the proposed method, the mobile host updates an available access router list and sends it to the layer 3-connected access router. The layer 3-connected access router uses multiple links through each access router on the access router list in order to deliver the packets to the mobile host. Throughput improvement by the proposed method is shown by computer simulations.
