Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) New generation mobile Radio Access Networks (RANs) that comprise many BSs and approach links require the investigation of technologies that are used to construct economical high-capacity networks since a lower bit cost network will be indispensable to the implementation of new generation mobile communication systems. Optical free-space links are a remarkable communication medium because they provide high-capacity transmission, low cost efficiency, and easy installation. However, optical-waves are severely attenuated in free-space transmission due to weather conditions such as rain and fog; therefore, they cannot provide a high level of link availability over a long-distance link. This paper reports the applicability of the optical wireless link to the RAN based on field experiments of free-space optical propagation characteristics.
