Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The photorefractive effect in quasi-phase-matched (QPM) LiNbO_3 (LN) wavelength converters was examined. The QPM wavelength shift was reduced at room temperature by a factor of 3 in a ZnO-doped sample compared with a nondoped one. The doped sample showed no significant wavelength shift at a temperature higher than 60℃ Wavelength conversion with a 12-dB parametric gain was demonstrated using a picosecond pulse-to-pulse interaction in a QPM-Zn:LN wavelength converter. We also proposed and demonstrated an optical frequency shifter using QPM-LN wavelength converters based on double wavelength conversion. We achieved broadband optical frequency shifting as broad as 1THz. The conversion efficiency of the optical frequency shifter was -20dB, and the signal to noise ratio was over 20dB.
