| Abstract(in English) | This paper introduces the network simulation approach in order to evaluate the performance of the IT system and the traffic control schemes used in the IT system. Recently, the IT system and network are becoming larger and more complex in order to satisfy the severe requirements of users. The applications running on the IT system are also becoming more complex and have the multi-tier structure to realize the distributed computing. The network and system managers are required to well manage the application and network performance, e.g., the response time, throughput, the number of committed transactions and so on, in order to satisfy the business requirements. It is impossible to analyze the performance of the above complex IT system using the empirical approaches, e.g. "rules of thumb", "questimates", or simple modeling approach. Therefore, the computer aided method, i.e., computer network simulation approach is required to cope with these complex problems. This paper describes the overview of the network simulation approach to evaluate the performance of the IT system using the simulation tool, OPNET, and especially summarizes the models created by using OPNET to evaluate the performance of the Quality of Service (QoS) control in the IP layer, and the application-level protocol to realize the enterprise application integration (EAI). In the workshop, some demonstrations will be presented. |
