Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of social skills on physiognomic features and facial expressions. 84 Korean undergraduates (37 males; 47 females) expressed straight, happy and anger faces and were photographed using three-dimensional measuring instrument. Results revealed that higher scores on social skills related to more expressive facial signals around the upper side (e.g., eye, eyebrows) and the under side (e.g., mouth, chin). Males who had scored higher on social skills showed expressive facial expressions around the under side while females showed expressive expression in eyes. The discriminant analysis showed that males needed many physiognomic features to discriminate affective communication skills than females and physiognomic features around eyes, chin, and mouth discriminated skills about both males and females. Expressive expression around eyes, noses, and eyebrows related to higher basic social skills.
