Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents a method for recognizing matrices in the real-time input system for handwritten mathematical formulas. This system can handle handwritings in order to convert mathematical 2-dimensional expressions into computer data in LaTeX style. New procedures are required for our system because matrices have particular vertical structures in contrast with other common mathematical structures, i.e. fraction and square root, etc. In our proposed method, matrix detection and recognition procedure is carried out based on the geometrical feature and the relationship of elements of matrices. The result of preliminary experiment shows the feasibility of our approach to real-time recognition of handwritten matrices.
