Protection Switching Method to use EtherOAM

Abstract(in English) Recently, a lot of corporate users are using the lease line services such as SDH and ATM have changed to a cheap, high-speed wide area Ethernet service. On the other hand, high reliability and a high quality are demanded from Layer 2 networks where the Ethernet technology was used. These can be achieved by the use of Ethernet OAM mechanism (Y.17ethoam) and Ethernet protection switching mechanism(G.8031) are now under study in ITU-T. This paper describes the method of insertion/forwarding the EtherOAM frames. It is shown that the quality degradation of the user data with the EtherOAM frames is suppressed and a high-speed protection switching can be achieved.
