Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Composites made with polymer and graphite have a potential for separator used in polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). Resistance along the generated current flow direction (penetration resistance) in PEFC is important. Usually, resistance perpendicular to the penetration resistance (surface resistance) is lower than the penetration resistance. In this paper, how surface resistance, penetration resistance and mechanical property are affected by graphite particle size and shape is examined. It was found that with decrease of graphite size, electrical conductivity decreased, but mechanical strength increased. Moreover, sphere graphite is much preferable to flake-like one in reducing the penetration resistance. Although the former shows o lower bending strain than latter, the former has a good elasticity.
