Making a lecture contents using the information about indicated objects in lecture materials

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a method to extract the information about indicated objects in computer presentations in a lecture room for the purpose of enrichment of lecture contents in electronic archives. Existing lecture contents display a movie of a lecturer and slides synchronically. Students cannot grasp the relationship between lecturer's talk and objects on a slide through the existing lecture contents. Therefore, it is important to extract the information about objects indicated by the lecturer's deictic gesture, because the gesture connects the lecture topic with the indicated object. Originally, indicated objects are determined by both the edge position of pointing devices and the kind of deictic gesture(Pointing, Highlighting, Outlining, Emphasizing). Therefore, for extracting indicated objects, it is necessary to classify the kind of lecturer's deictic gesture. We propose the method for classifying the deictic gestures using new feature, teacher's position, tezcher's orientation, and the kind of the lecture material's region, in addition to the orbit of indicated points. We verified the effectiveness of our method by the success rate of classification.
