Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) With the spread of optical analog video distribution systems, it becomes important to develop high output power and high efficiency optical fiber amplifiers. The optical fiber amplifier using an erbium doped double clad holey fiber is expected to be a candidate of the high output power and high efficiency optical fiber amplifiers, because the efficiency of the double clad holey fiber can be higher than that of a polymer double clad fiber owing to its high NA. To apply the double clad holey fiber to the high output power optical fiber amplifiers, it is needed to improve the splice loss between the polymer double clad fiber and the double clad holey fiber. In this report, we propose a new method to decrease the splice loss between the polymer double clad fiber and the double clad holey fiber. By thinning both fibers with hydrofluoric acid etching technique, we obtained the minimum splice loss of 0.86dB.
