Two-dimensional analysis of beam propagation in photorefractive material with FD-BPM

Abstract(in English) Recently, it is attempted to develop slab waveguide using the photorefractive material such as KNbO_3, and LiNbO_3. In this report, two-dimensional analysis technique for beam propagation in photorefractive material with FD-BPM is proposed. This analysis adds two-dimensional relative permittivity distribution modulated by photorefractive effect to FD-BPM used for conventional waveguide analysis. The calculation results show propagation of the light beam in the material can be controlled by irradiating other light beam externally. Furthermore, a frequency variable filter and an Add/Drop type optical switch are proposed as application of the optical control using this technique. Here, the diffraction efficiency of the output beam for frequency and bandwidth are examined.
