Development of Non-zero DSF with Ultra Low Dispersion Slope

Abstract(in English) For next generation terrestrial transmission line, a new type of non-zero dispersion shifted fiber(NZ-DSF) with ultra low dispersion slope was developed, taking broad band transmission and adoption of Raman amplifier into consideration. Generally, to avoid non-linear phenomena for WDM transmission, enlargement of effective core area (Aeff) is required although reduction of dispersion slope leads smaller Aeff. In this report, optimizing index profile, we succeed to reduce dispersion slope lower than 0.020ps/nm^2/km keeping Aeff 45μm^2 same level as conventional DSF. Ultra low dispersion slope brings shorter zero-wavelength, wider-band transmission and enables to suppress four wave mixing (FWM) generation in Raman pump region when Raman amplifiers are adopted. In addition, we examined application of dispersion compensator for higher bit rate transmission.
