Comparison of methods for estimating one-minute rainfall rate distribution and proposal of a method using conditional M distribution

Abstract(in English) One-minute rainfall rate is the most significant parameter for designing the fixed wireless access (FWA) systems using the frequencies above 10 GHz, and is influenced by rain conditions. This paper shows its standard estimation ways used in and out of Japan and discusses about their availability for designing the FWA systems in millimeter wave band. 22 existing estimation ways of one-minute rainfall rate distribution are also classified according to their derivation methods, such as the integration time conversion, the use of climatic parameters, the statistical analysis, and so on. The one-minute rainfall rate distributions estimated by some of them are compared with the rainfall distribution data measured for 2 years at 4 locations in Tokyo urban area. As the result, it is found that the estimation based on the conditional M distribution has an excellent agreement with the measured data. This paper also shows an estimation result of one-minute rainfall rate distribution derived from one-hour rainfall rate distribution of long period AMeDAS rain data by using the conditional M distribution.
