Unitary Transformed MUSIC Method with Real Eigenanalysis for Direction of Arrivals Estimation on Uniform Circular Arrays

Abstract(in English) The problem of estimating the direction-of-arrivals (DOA) on uniform circular array (UCA) by using unitary transformed MUSIC method is considered in this paper. The proposed method uses one kind of unitary matrices to transform the complex steering vector into the real. While C.P. Mathews et al have presented the method using Bessel function to approximate the steering vector, the proposed method does not need to use approximation calculations, so it is expected to have much better estimation perform. It makes the calculation of MUSIC method require only real computations and therefore the computational complexity was reduced significantly. Moreover, due to the averaging effect, which is similar to forward/backward averaging effect on linear array, the proposed method can separate two completely coherent sources and provide improved estimation for correlated signals. Through the simulation, we also point out the merits of the proposed method by comparing it with up-to-now DOA estimating methods on UCA.
