Simulation Analysis of Nerve Excitation Changed the Number of Turns of Figure-of-Eight Coil in localized Magnetic Nerve Stimulation

Abstract(in English) In the magnetic stimulation of the peripheral nerve with the figure-of-eight coil, the intensity of induced electric field increased with the number of turns of the coil. However, the distribution of the electric field in actual magnetic stimulation is different from the ideal case that the coil is estimated as a line. In this study, we analyzed the electric field and the properties of nerve excitation changing with the number of turns of the coil. The result shows that two stimulating points with the least intensity appear in the stimulation with the coil with small the number of stimulating points with the least stimulating intensity become two when the number of turns of the coil is more than 13 turn, in the case that the junction of the figure-of-eight coil is parallel to the nerve fiber. In case that the junction of the figure-of-eight coils perpendicular to the nerve fiber, the nerve fiber is stimulated at two points when the number of turns of the coil is more than 13 turn, whereas the nerve fiber is stimulated at only one point when the number of turn of the coil is less than 13 turns.
