| Abstract(in English) | New passports are soon introduced in Japan, which will include contactless IC chips. They will also have their owners' digital-face-images on their IC chips for identifying the genuine owners by employment of biometrics technologies. First of all, the authors tell a historical background of deployment of biometrics onto passports briefly. The special committee for research on IC passports, which established to prepare ePassport insurance in Japan, has been investigating wide spectrum of technical tasks. The authors also tell a couple of its results related to biometrics : (1) feasibility study for employing face recognition to real application fields. (2) recognition performance variability against aging effect, of which outcome should be reflect to determining the period of validity of ePassports. |
