Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper discusses a face recognition method using an image decomposition. In the paper, a Gaussian filter is used for the image decomposition. While it cannot sufficiently extract an effective component, it can decompose an image into two effective components, the filtered image and its residual. The two components complement each other and they are evaluated independently in the framework of eigenface method. The image decomposition can also collaborate with parallel partial projections for robust recognition. Experimental results show that the image decomposition works even if only one image is available for the registration. The decomposition provides a simple and effective recognition method insensitive to lighting conditions.
