Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) At present there are many methods that could deal with frontal view face recognition. However, most of them are highly complicated and are computationally power hungry, making it difficult to implement them into real-time face recognition applications. In this paper, a very simple and efficient face recognition method called Adjacent Pixel Intensity Difference Quantization (APIDQ) Histogram Method is proposed. Experimental results show a recognition rate of 95.7% for 400 images of 40 persons (10 images per person) from the publicly available AT&T face database. By compensating the lighting condition with a best-fit linear function, recognition rate increases up to 96.5%. By utilizing the table look-up (TLU) method in the quantization step, the total recognition processing time becomes only 31 msec, enabling the real-time face recognition.
