Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Fast and precise object detection in an image is one of the most important problems in the field of pattern recognition and computer vision. The template matching is known as a method that can be used for this purpose. In this paper, a fast template matching method that can match up an input image with templates of various sizes and aspect ratios is discussed. A method of using a function which can represent the template to match the input image instead of using the template image is proposed. Here, polynomial is used to be the function since is does not have many parameters and can be easily handled. It is shown that the computation cost of finding the most similar part from an M×N input image to the template can be reduced from O(M^3N^3) to O(M^2N^2).
