Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Unlike the conventional approach that measures neural activity given a stimulus or task, the decoding approach in neuroscience characterizes neural activity to predict an unknown stimulus or task. Here, we first give an overview of the concept of neural decoding and decoding methods. Then, we summarize our recent results on non-invasive decoding of human visual perception, and discuss the potential of the decoding approach for the study of internal representations of the human brain and non-invasive brain-machine interfaces.
