Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In a future mobile ubiquitous world, all kinds of things will be interconnected as needed to form wireless networks that should arise frequently and simultaneously while changing continuously. Future mobile terminals will operate in the wireless environment in which a variety of wireless systems coexist and intermingle, and they will be expected to be available for all of those systems. Because a radio frequency (RF) circuit is an essential element of a mobile terminal, multi-band RF circuits have been researched. It is difficult for a PA, a key device of an RF circuit, to operate at multiple frequency bands with adequate performance. This paper describes a novel scheme for a multi-band power amplifier(PA) that employs a low-loss reconfigurable matching network. By controlling the on/off status of each switch, the matching network functions as a band-switchable matching network. A 900MHz/1900MHz dual-band, 1W class PA was fabricated with microelectro mechanical system (MEMS) SPST switches. The dual-band PA achieves over 60% of the maximum power-added efficiency with an output power for each band exceeding 30dBm.
