Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a novel dependable system, that we call PREGMA (Platform for Reliable Environment based on a General-purpose Machine Architecture), which can realize three requirements - high avail- ability, data integrity and low cost - for the Internet business. PREGMA is configured using COTS components without modification for low cost. Moreover, PREGMA runs two or more applications in a loosely synchronized manner. If one application fails, the other continues the service, which makes it possible to offer high availability. Furthermore, each application possesses its own replicated data for data integrity. As the results of the evaluations based on our experimental system, PREGMA can provide that the recovery time in the event of failure is about only 1 second without losing and destroying data, and the performance reduction by the PREGMA functions is only 3 %.
