Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The three-dimensional beam-propagation method is used to analyze a metal-loaded TE/TM mode splitter consisting of silica-based embedded waveguides. The metal is loaded on one of the two parallel embedded waveguides. To increase an extinction ratio, we adjust the core width of the metal-loaded waveguide, which satisfies the phase-matching condition of the TE mode between the two waveguides. Calculation shows that the TE/TM mode splitter offers an extinction ratio of more than 25dB at a wavelength of 1.55μm. We also study the effect of change in wavelength and configuration parameters.
