Pattern-matching Label Processing Using an Optical Timing Pulse Generator

Abstract(in English) We propose a pattern-matching label processing technique for optical packet switching. In the optical label processor, a Sagnac interferometer with an SOA asymmetrically arranged in it extracts the first pulse of the optical packet to control the processing timing, and SOA-MZI (SOA Mach-Zehnder Interferometer) wavelength converter works as an optical AND gate. A polarization-independent 1x2 optical packet switch incorporating the label processor is demonstrated for 10-Gbps packets and the label recognition error rate of less than 10^<-9> was achieved.
