A Proposal of the New Intrusion Detection System based on FPGA/Software Cooperation

Abstract(in English) Presently, all of the intrusion detection systems (IDS) are based on software implementation. However, it is going to be difficult for them to process all packets by following the speed up of latest high speed networks. To cope with this situation, we propose the new IDS based on FPGA/Software cooperation to enhance the processing performance of the total IDS. In this architecture, Sensor operation part which may be the bottle neck of the IDS is implemented by FPGA hardware and the other operation parts are implemented by software on a PC. The design principles and the general architecture of the system are described with some preliminary evaluations.
