Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Kabuki play is the integrated artistic expression having long tradition in Japan. Since the beginning of the Kabuki play the action on the stage has been spread out to the civil people due to the stereotypical actor's stage busyness, stage set, and the story plots. Those elements make the audience to understand the kabuki play easier and enjoyable. Particular action called Nirami in kabuki play looks quite unusual eye position in both eyes, which is non-conjugate eye position. The expression of the actors in Nirami action does not give the charming and beautiful impression to the audience but rather strong concentration of the spirit of the actor on the stage because of asymmetrical eye position. The symmetry iihas been one of the norm for the art in general including architecture, craft works, painting, and so on. However there are a lot of examples which show the asymmetrical designs in many art beyond the boarder. I propose that the asymmetry might be one of the elements in the value system for the beauty.
