Prototyping and Evaluation of a Video Tablet Using Stereo Camera

Abstract(in English) Recently, various kinds of input devices have been adopted in educational systems. For developing educational systems for writing skill training, the author have been studying appropriate input device for this training. Generally, writing skill training systems often use a pen tablet as the input device. However, this type of table has following use interface problems : (1) students cannot use normal papers, (2) they cannot use common writing materials, and (3) their handwriting cannot be remained. For solving these problems, the authors have proposed an input device architecture called "video tablet" that use two stereo cameras. They have also prototyped the tablet. Especially, this paper reports stroke determination method of real strokes and empty strokes as the basic function of our video tablet. In addition, basic evaluation of this method is also discussed in this report.
