A Extended Method of Characteristics in Transmission Line Analysis and Its Numerical Stability

Abstract(in English) When the transmission line is analyzed, the method of characteristics is known as a method by which the time-domain characteristic can be derived very stably. However, there is a restriction that the ratio of spatial and time interval should be equal to the propagation velocity when this method is used. In this paper, a extended method which removed this restriction and to be able to select any spaital and time interval when the analysis is executed is presented. The stability of the proposed method is analyzed, and it is shown that it is neutral steady state when the lossless transmission line is analyzed. Moreover, the numerical dispersion is compared with that of the ADI-FDTD method which restrict without spatial and time interval similarly. And, it is shown that the extended method of characteristics is better. The effectiveness of this method is confirmed by the numerical examples.
